‘Upgrade to Internet Explorer 11’ says Microsoft
Old versions of Internet Explorer are being ‘killed off’
Microsoft announced as of yesterday they will no longer be supporting early versions of Internet Explorer (7, 8, 9 & 10). They are aiming to push users towards using the new Windows 10 and Edge, the latest versions of Windows. Internet Explorer 11, the most recent version of Internet Explorer will continue to receive updates, fixes, plus both technical and security support. This applies to Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10.
The reason behind the sudden change to Internet Explorer 11 is due to improved security, increased performance/compatibility plus better support for websites and services. Microsoft are encouraging customers to upgrade to the latest browser for a faster, secure experience. Microsoft recently revealed that over 200 million people are now using Windows 10 software, with the figures continuing to climb, however they are still aiming to have the software on a billion devices.
Joe Belfiore of Microsoft
Joe Belfiore of Microsoft said: ’It’s a browser that is made easy sharing, reading, discovery and getting things done online.’ He also admitted the firm would still allow users to install Internet Explorer. ‘We will continue to make it easy for our enterprise customers to make Internet Explorer 11 the default browser via group policy. Internet Explorer 11 is supported on Windows 7, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10 for all customers, also providing a consistent platform that’s great for enterprise Web apps.’
Free upgrades
Microsoft is currently offering the new software as a free download for people who want to install it on their existing PCs/Laptops. The free upgrades contributed greatly to the millions now using Windows 10 unsurprisingly, after all, who doesn’t like a free upgrade! Internet Explorer 11 is intended to work on PCs, tablets, smartphones plus any other devices.
Conclusion
In conclusion, you need to take action now, Microsoft will NOT provide security updates or technical support for old versions any longer. The security updates are very important to protect your computer from vulnerabilities such as malicious attacks attempting to access your personal details, keep your data safe and your device up to date with Internet Explorer 11!
