The Dartmoor Preservation Association (DPA) was founded as an independent member organisation in 1883 to help look after Dartmoor – an area in south-west England which contains some of the finest landscapes in the country. It is one of the oldest environmental or amenity bodies in the UK.
Interest in Dartmoor’s landscape, archaeology and natural history had been rapidly increasing through the latter half of the nineteenth century and the formation of a watchdog organisation seemed to be a prudent step to take.

The overall design reflects the rugged feel of Dartmoor’s landscape with scenic views of the national park and silhouettes of the tors. A user-friendly WordPress website that’s easy to navigate for a wide demographic, highlights their four main services: conservation, volunteering, walks and the DPA. To keep the DPA members up to date, there is a news feed, twitter feed, donations, membership registration and the ability to add products to their shop.
When designing the new Dartmoor Preservation Association logo, the consensus from the general public and DPA members was for the new logo to be a refinement and evolution of the previous logo instead of a complete overhaul. Hoot Media achieved this by streamlining the original logo, using a richer purple and including heritage elements.
